Phoenix Cockroach Control

The five most common species of cockroaches in Arizona are the American, German, Oriental, Turkestan, and Brownbanded cockroaches. While all these types of roaches share some similarities, there are important differences among them, and Blue Sky Pest Control technicians tailor cockroach treatments to be the most effective for each species. If you need Phoenix cockroach control, we’ll give you $50 off your service! We have offices in Phoenix and Gilbert that make it easy for us to serve the entire area from Peoria to Surprise to Mesa in both homes and commercial spaces.

Cause

Many roaches enter homes and buildings from outside, through sewer openings, or by hitchhiking in furniture, boxes, electronic equipment, and other items brought into the home. Because each cockroach species is different, the cause for each infestation is different. Here are some facts about the common cockroaches we find throughout the Phoenix area:

  • Brownbanded cockroaches prefer warm, dry places and live and nest exclusively indoors, often in higher locations, such as in ceilings and picture frames. They are usually brought into homes or buildings through moving boxes or used furniture.
  • German cockroaches often live indoors around wet, warm areas, such as in cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms. (They’re especially attracted to the warmth of running appliances). Like the Brownbanded cockroach, German roaches are also usually brought into houses and buildings in moving boxes, appliances, and electronics.
  • Oriental cockroaches like wet, cool environments and tend to live indoors, usually in basements, near pipes and drains, and in wall voids, especially in bathrooms.
  • American cockroaches also prefer wet, cool habitats, but they live outside, usually only entering buildings through drains and foundations.
  • Turkestan cockroaches are primarily an outdoor species, but males are strongly attracted to light during the night, so they do find their way indoors.

Treatment

Our service technicians have both the training and the first-hand experience to correctly identify different types of cockroaches. Properly identifying the roach species is the first step in locating nesting sites and effectively treating the infestation.

Once our service technicians determine what kind (or kinds) of roaches you’re dealing with, they will thoroughly inspect your property for nesting sites and apply the proper treatment.

Cockroaches are so common here in the greater Phoenix area that control often requires consistent inspection, access denial/exclusion and treatment. Roaches are persistent pests, so you should know what to expect after one our cockroach treatments, which will vary depending on the type of roach. A german cockroach infestation can take months to gain control, while control can be achieved more quickly for the other species. You will generally notice an increase in cockroach activity after the first treatment. This is because we are flushing out the cockroaches as we treat where they hide, nest and breed. Control generally takes several treatments with ongoing inspection and treatments to maintain control. No matter what, our technicians will let you know what type of roach you’re dealing with and what you can expect with your specific situation.

Prevention

Lack of cleanliness is not necessarily the cause of cockroaches infestations. Roaches are attracted to food sources, which can include everything from cereal to dog food, paper to cardboard boxes. That also makes prevention difficult because you can’t necessarily get rid of everything roaches feed on.

However, the key to prevention is vigilance. Seal cereals, crackers, pastas and pet foods in airtight plastic containers. Reduce clutter, get rid of extra cardboard boxes, and replace corrugated cardboard with plastic bins. Clean and place metal baskets in all drains, fix leaks and caulk around drains, faucets and do not overwater your landscaping.

We back every Blue Sky Pest Control service plan with a simple guarantee: if between your scheduled treatments you feel you need additional service or are not satisfied, please call us and we will return and service your home, free of charge.
